Standard LED Platforms

Standard LED-Based Lighting Platforms

At OptoElectronix, we define LED-based lighting platforms as containing the following:

  • A unique form factor
  • An optical system (lens)
  • An electronic drive circuit that drives the LED from a standard voltage source
  • A thermal management system for the LED-generated heat
  • And, of course, an LED.

Multiple-LED, Planar Platform

Multiple LEDs arranged on a plane provide ample light for applications such as wall sconces or outdoor wall lanterns, providing a huge opportunity for design innovation. Form factors include rectangular, circiular, or linear. The driving circuitry for a multi-LED approach handles standard 120VAC line voltage. Heat sinking can be direct to the fixture via an IPS connection.

Why Standard Platforms?

The idea of standard LED lighting platforms that handle multiple applications means that sales volumes of the platforms will be high enough to allow high-volume, automated manufacturing to bring costs down and quality up. Yet the versatility of the platform approach gives lighting and luminaire designers infinite design freedom.
