Chuck Berghoff, President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Berghoff has over 30 years experience in the semiconductor industry. Prior to founding OptoElectronix Berghoff was president and CEO of Summit Microelectronics where he forged strategic business relationships with global communications equipment market leaders and launched the company into the portable consumer product market with innovative programmable analog power IC products. Berghoff served as entrepreneur-in-residence at Summit Venture Partners where he was responsible for performing global investment-related due diligence and leading acquisition negotiations for the high tech sector.

Prior to Summit Venture Partners, Berghoff built the Siemens Optoelectronic Division into one of the world's leading broad-line optoelectronic products suppliers; products ranged from commodity optocouplers for the telecom industry to application-specific displays for leading cell phone manufacturers as well as custom products for major automotive, medical, industrial and telecom customers. Over a 13-year period Berghoff held positions as vice president of Marketing, Custom Product Business Unit manager, Intelligent Display Business Unit manager and later vice president and general manager of the Optoelectronic Division.

Berghoff was marketing manager for Supertex, responsible for display driver ICs and manager of Marketing and Sales for Ladcor, an LCD display startup. Over a 7-year period Berghoff held quality, engineering and marketing management positions at Intel Corporation and has held board positions at Summit Microelectronics and Siemens Penang, Malaysia.

Berghoff earned a BSEE from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota. He is active in community service and education initiatives, serving on the De Anza College Commission and as president of the Foothill-De Anza College Foundation Board. He was also advisory board chairman of Philips Junior College and advisor to the De Anza-San Jose State Business Incubator. Berghoff has also been chairman of the board of the Loaves and Fishes family kitchen charity.

Jim Beck, Chairman and Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Beck has over 35 years of experience in electronics, primarily in optoelectronics, hybrid circuit development and semiconductor device design. As founder and CEO of Patchen California Inc. from 1990 to 1995, he developed a unique technology, capable of optically detecting the presence of weeds in agriculture and eliminating the offending plants without damage to crop plants. He sold that company to Deere & Company in 1995. Read more.

Prior to founding Patchen, Beck served as president of Indala Corporation where he brought this RF identification company into profitability and facilitated its sale to Motorola in 1991.

During the 1980s he held executive positions at Siemens Optoelectronic Division in Cupertino, California, first as VP of Engineering and later as VP and general manager of the division. His major contribution was defining a new technical direction for the company and leading the company in development and investment into new products and markets. Read more.

Beck earned a BSEE and a BS in industrial management from Tri-State University in Indiana. Later he did much of the design work for some of the early transistorized AM/FM automobile radios and lighting controls to be produced by General Motors. As a veteran of Fairchild Semiconductor in the 1960s, he was on the leading edge of the evolution of the Silicon planar technology and worked hand-in-hand with many of the industry giants.

He has served on the boards of many Silicon Valley companies and is a past trustee of Cogswell College. He is currently active in the National Arthritis Foundation as fundraiser and organizer of the annual Arthritis Walk in San Jose. He has owned and operated various small companies including a hotel near Lake Tahoe and two Christmas tree ranches in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Dato Yap Peng Hooi, Vice President & Managing Director of Asia Operations

Dato Yap has over 30 years of experience in the optoelectronics semiconductor industry including manufacturing, materials, marketing and sales executive management roles. Holding positions as senior vice president and managing director of the Siemens OSRAM Opto Semiconductor operations in Penang, Malaysia, Dato Yap led the growth of the Penang and Wuxi China operations to over 2,000 employees. He successfully established the first Siemens Opto factory in Wuxi, China and pioneered the use of captive manufacturing partners to build custom optoelectronics products. Penang, Malaysia, Wuxi, and China operations were part of the Siemens Optoelectronics Division until 1999. Dato Yap was also a board member of Siemens Malaysia.

Under Dato Yap's leadership the Penang, Malaysia operation won a number of prestigious semiconductor industry quality awards, including the Malaysia Quality Award and the Prime Minister's Excellence Award as well as the Siemens Corporate Quality Award. Dato Yap has extensive expertise in deployment of best practices including ISO standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), 6 Sigma and Design to Cost (DTC). Many companies throughout the industry have used the Penang operation as a benchmark for Total Quality Management practices.

Dato Yap earned a bachelor of mathematical statistics from LaTrobe University, Victoria, Australia under the prestigious Colombo Plan Scholarship. He is the past vice president and president of the Free Industrial Zone, Penang Companies Association and member of the Penang Industrial Council, Semiconductor & Electronics Components Task Force.
